My first day at school

Today was the first day of my school. A 7 year old child came to me in morning and said "Welcome Sir". That is the best morning you can ever have. I cannot even explain it to myself that how a person as introvert as me can love standing in front of class filled with children, children screaming, dancing, and making their best efforts to annoy the hell out of you. I reached my school, I joined my duty,  and was given 5th standard as our incharge sir thought that I would not be able to handle too young children.  I entered my class and was welcomed with the traditional hymn, "Gooooooood Mooooooorning Teeeaacher".

Before today day I had never seen in a Municipal school. 90% of students were not in their school dress, and many were looking like they barely had taken a shower today. Four children were fighting over seats, one on the front bench was staring me like anything. Few didn't even notice me.

Well, it was attendance time and we decided to have a twist today.

You know what, there is something these children taught me and it's, no matter what you learn in your training days about how to handle children. No training Institute can teach you how to know children. It never comes through books. It never comes to teachers for whom it's just a part of the job. Its a deliberate job. You have to listen to them deliberately but not unnaturally.

Meanwhile, one child asked me my name. I replied "Find it yourself". A child from second last bench came and asked me for attendance register so that he can search it on the cover page. Wow, didn't saw that coming. I handover him, and nothing was there. Few children guessed wrong names. One child came and tell me in ear "Sir... Mujhe bta do...mein kisi ko nahi btaunga" (Sir tell me, I won't share with anyone). Just look at such insights.

I asked them to tell their name first by writing it on blackboard. Everybody came one by one and that's how attendance was done today and I also got to know how many students can write their own name. Apart from few, most of them can write. It's good.

The lunch bell rang. Children with their steel bowls headed towards the Mid day meal section. It was Rice and potato curry being served. My name is still a mystery to them
Let them do some more efforts.

After lunch break we had a little celebration for newly joined teachers.

Being very honest, Classroom is way more surprising then such celebration.
